Wisconsin was first explored by Jean Nicolet of France in 1634 when he landed at Green Bay. In 1660, a French trading post was established near Ashland. Great Britain acquired the area after the French and Indian Wars in 1763. In 1783, Wisconsin was acquired by The United States after the Revolutionary War.
Wisconsin is better known today for it’s milk and cheese production, although many other farm products are grown there also, such as peas, beets, corn, potatoes, oats, and cranberries.
