Funeral insurance, much like a prepaid burial contract, is insurance that is used to cover the cost of funeral expenses when one passes away. Some insurance agents, especially those who represent funeral homes, or funeral directors will list funeral details to allow for a more accurate face value. Make sure a policy is chosen that lists detailed instructions of what is included in that particular policy. Because these policies are highly individualized, there are many details that can be covered, such as a casket or urn, cremation, embalming, burial vault or grave liner, grave marker, hearse and other funeral vehicles, flowers, music, even the burial plot and digging of the grave itself.

Upon the death of the individual the policy benefit is paid directly to the funeral home to cover the funeral expenses.
