Retirement Housing Options

There are several options when looking into Wisconsin retirement housing. Many people are just not ready to move into an assisted living facility or a nursing home. There are many active Wisconsin retirees who are looking into moving into retirement communities, who are still very active and would like to reap the benefits of active living. There are many options for those who are considering moving into Wisconsin retirement homes. Wisconsin Retirement communities are usually planned communities for residents who have retired from an active working life.

Wisconsin retirement community, or active adult community, is generic term that covers many varieties of housing for retirees and seniors, which are especially designed or geared for people who no longer work, or are restricted to those over a certain age. They differ from a retirement home which is a single building or small complex where no "common areas" for socializing exist.

Many Wisconsin retirement communities are planned for active retirees, and have special facilities catering to the needs and wants of retirees, including extensive amenities like clubhouses, swimming pools, arts and crafts, boating, trails, golf courses, and most have on-site medical facilities.

There are three broad categories of retirement communities:

ACTIVE communities (all residential units, no long-term healthcare facilities)

ACTIVE/SUPPORTIVE communities (a combination of residential and healthcare facilities - also known as "continuing care retirement communities" - CCRC)

SUPPORTIVE communities (all long-term healthcare units, like assisted living and nursing care).
